The Warren Woods Tower boy’s varsity tennis team is on a roll. This season has been a great one for them, under the lead of co-captains Jacob Carroll ’12 and Dan Coons ’12. “It’s just been one win after another for the team. We’ve been doing really well lately,” Dan Coons said. So far, they have gone 7-2-1 and won the MAC Silver Division title as well as the dual title.

With both division titles under their belt, they are understandably excited for regionals, which is on October 7th at Grosse Pointe North. “I really believe that we have a good chance of going to states this year. In years past, we’ve had a team that wasn’t really well matched in skill. Some people were really good and then others…not so much. This year it’s much different and I think it really changes the dynamic of the entire team,” Jacob said.

Coach Cutshaw is confident that they’ll make it to states and has already started looking at rates for hotel rooms. “I’m definitely confident in my boys,” the varsity coach said. If the team qualifies at regionals, they would move on to states on September 14th.

Although tennis is arguably less of a team sport than other sports, the team has a certain camaraderie that unites and motivates them. “Of course the guys on the team have different personalities, but for the most part, we get along and we’re always joking around,” Jacob said, with an affirmation from Dan. With a cohesive team under the direction of two great captains, the boys are sure to have an even more success this season.
