Since most of the student body spend their free time (and all their other time) on Twitter, teachers have decided to infiltrate the social network. With this modern approach , teachers are connecting with students in a whole new way.

Teachers, like World History teacher Mr. Vukich, use the site to reach out to students with updates, homework help, and even some fun facts or articles.

“I have had quite a few students reach out for help after school hours via Twitter when studying for tests and quizzes. I think that it is very helpful,” Vukich commented.

Not only are the teachers’ twitters helpful to the students, but they’re also extremely easy to use- for students and teachers.

“It is incredibly easy to use. I would encourage teachers to use it. I would keep it simple, though. If you [teachers] tweet personal stuff all the time or tweet a ton of articles, people will just stop paying attention to it, I think,” Vukich said.

While many students enjoy having their teachers just a click away, others are skeptical about their Twitters being available to the teachers. Many students, like senior Erica Saier, are worried about their privacy and if teachers will look too deeply into their personal lives.

“I don’t have things to hide, but I like the separation between my life in school and my life outside of school. I don’t think anyone wants their teachers to know everything about them, so having them on Twitter makes me a little uneasy at times,” Erica Saier said.

Though students may think that their teachers are “checking up” on them, that’s not their intention at all. In fact, the teachers understand more than everyone thinks they do.

“I wouldn’t have wanted my teachers looking at my Twitter if that was available when I was in high school. However, students should probably think twice about what they post online anyway, on either Facebook or Twitter. Online identity is a huge thing for colleges and employers. If students don’t want their teachers or parents reading what they are posting because of the content, then it probably shouldn’t be posted,” Vukich added.

Many of the school administrators have Twitter accounts also; even Mr. Mackenzie has a twitter! So see if your teachers have a Twitter, or talk them into making one; it’s a great new way to stay on top of your school work.
