I am always hungry for something good. A cheeseburger, french fries, and a chocolate shake sounds so good but that isn’t the smartest decision to make. Healthy living is a lifestyle choice that not many people understand. I personally don’t always want to watch what I eat but I do know that it will help me in the long run to have a healthy and happy life. It takes great determination to live a healthy lifestyle. Having a healthy lifestyle depends on eating healthy, working out, and having a positive mind set while doing so.

Eating healthy isn’t easy to do but it definitely is not impossible. It is always good to balance out the portions of food that you eat and that is one way to succeed in healthy eating. During breakfast you should have some sort of protein which includes yogurt or eggs. It is also a good idea to have a fruit option and that would balance out the protein. When it comes to lunch, it can be hard to turn away from a cheeseburger but it is a better option to have a salad, but be careful, don’t use to much dressing because that is where the calories roll in. “Whenever I eat a salad I always tend to put a lot of dressing on it and I know that that isn’t the best option,” Olivia Camp ’16 said. Dinner is always a hard meal to plan. It is good to have one meat option for protein and that can include pork or chicken, then have a vegetable, and a carb which will give you a balanced meal.

It isn’t just about eating healthy when it comes to a healthy lifestyle. You need to work out as well. Working out isn’t as hard as you may think. “I don’t really like working out because I feel like it is a waste of time and there is no reward,” Corrina Hall ’16 shared. Working out is actually really easy. While you watch TV at home do some leg lifts which will tone your legs. You can turn on your favorite song and dance around for an hour and that will work your whole body and it will be fun at the same time. I am not going to lie, I don’t enjoy working out but if you do the right exercise it can be fun and before you know it you will be craving fitness. When I began working out a few months ago I dreaded doing anything fitness related, now it is just a part of my routine and I don’t feel the same if I don’t work out.

Your mind is the control system of your body and if you don’t allow your mind to be positive, healthy living will never be possible. I know that it is easier just to lay down all day and eat potato chips but you have to allow your mind to tell you “NO”.  Your mind needs to be on good terms before your body can be. You can work out every single day and eat healthy but if you don’t think positively about yourself then nothing will ever change. “I understand that your mind is in control of your body and it makes sense that healthy living revolves around the mind set that you have on it,” Megan McGill ’16 shared.

In the end it takes many things to have a healthy lifestyle. It all works in harmony once you get the hang of it. I really think that everyone has the power to have a healthy lifestyle and I would love to see everyone feel good about themselves. The United States of America has a large problem with obesity and I think that we should all take a stand towards having a healthier and happier life. It is very easy to find information on healthy living. It just takes some time and effort to get to the right place and on the right track.
