The Foods and Hospitality classes and students get to participate in several events this season. They get to contribute in activities in and out of school. Some events that take place are The Foster Benefit for foster kids, the Annual Administrative Lunch-in, Class of 2017 cookie fundraiser, can food drive with the renaissance club, and the Macomb County Credit Union Dessert Competition.
The Foster Benefit takes place on Thursday, December 18th at 6:00pm. The Culinary program provides food and drinks for around 150 people. “My favorite part of the foster benefit is participating in something to help others,” Chuck Richardson ’15 says.

It’s called temporary foster ship. It’s for children whose parents are in prison or rehab and they get watched until their parents come back. “They are the cutest, littlest kids in the world and I just want to adopt them,” Mr. Silwanowicz, culinary teacher, replies. Renaissance club and cosmetology also participate in it by donate games as well as doing hair and nails.

The Annual Administrative Lunch-in takes place on Wednesday, December 17th. The food program makes delicious food, so all the administration get to enjoy lunch. It’s a get together to enjoy the holiday season, and some music contributed by the WWT choir.

They are also making hundreds of cookies for the Class of 2017 cookie fundraiser. They provide them for the family and staff in the district. “The cookie fundraiser helps with a lot of future cost. It helps bring done the price of pep rally shirts, prom tickets, senior dues, etc.,” Tricia Matzke ’17 explains.

Renaissance Club is holding a can food drive this year and the culinary program takes part in it as well. They did it 2 years ago and they liked that it helps out the community. It’s a positive and fun thing to do throughout school.

The Macomb County Credit Union Dessert Competition is a huge event that students love to partake in. They’re required to participate as a part of our CTE accreditation. It’s fun to join and be able to work as a team. “We enjoy the local competition and won last year,” Mr. Silwanowicz remarks.
“My favorite part is being able to create something cool. I think it helps gain experience working under pressure,” Noah Hartson ’15 comments.

Foods and Hospitality will be working hard to finish the event they take on this season.
