Students at WWT do not know a lot of things about the people who teach them everything at school, the teachers. Mrs. Okroy, a science teacher, recently showed up on a reality TV show called “Detroit Unleashed” which started filming around April of last year.
So far one episode has been aired in which Mrs. Okroy has been spotted in lots of footage during the spring/ summer. “Detroit Unleashed” focuses on the Detroit dog rescues boarding shelter in which Mrs. Okroy visits on a daily basis. The organization tries to save abused, homeless, and forgotten dogs in Detroit.
“I’ve always wanted to work with animals, and this was the nearest no kill shelter around,” Mrs. Okroy said about why she wanted to volunteer there. The show has currently stopped filming and is putting the episodes on TV, but they may continue around the holidays if they get good reviews.
“It’s actually funny, my face gets all red… but it’s good exposure for people to see what I do outside of school,” Okroy stated about how she felt appearing a couple of times on the show. When Okroy started out about last year her favorite dog was a black and white spotted dog named Oreo. Oreo just got put in a foster home, but Okroy liked how they were together for so long. Being such a dog lover, she has two of her own, Mia and Chap.
“My favorite dog is a Shar-Pei, but I also like bull dogs because I think they have a bad rep. Most are really nice dogs”.
