Senior Aaron Boleyn showcases his musical talents both in and out of school and aspires to pursue a career in this field. Aaron’s love for music began when he was very young and with much time and practice, he now plays six different instruments and is the drum line section leader.

“My interest in music all started by listening to my dad’s iPod on several road trips in late elementary school. I would often just listen to music for hours afterwards and eventually found myself wanting to play it. I got Guitar Hero for Wii and I immediately thought that guitar would be the instrument for me,” recalls Aaron Boleyn ’16.

Unfortunately, Aaron did not have a guitar, so this interest soon died off. However, his family did own a keyboard which he began to try and teach himself to play.  Soon, Aaron’s parents began to take notice and offered to take him to piano lessons from a woman at their church.

“I began lessons at her home in sixth grade where her husband also taught drum lessons. Hearing his students practice sparked my interest in drums. I started drum lessons the next month and I guess you could say, the rest is history,” he continues.

Aaron continued piano and drum lessons until freshman year of high school. Currently, he is in concert winds, jazz band and percussion ensemble in school and also plays drums for his youth group and church.

“It’s awesome how he can play so many instruments so well, yet he makes it look effortless. He makes it seem as if he could pick up any instrument and have it mastered within minutes, and I think that’s a true testament to his talent,” says Jenn Knost ’16.

Aaron plays primarily drums and percussion, but also dabbles in piano, bass, guitar, ukulele, and melodica. His favorite instrument to play is the drums because he feels that he is best at them and finds them to be the most fun instrument to play.  Aaron also enjoys listening to all different kinds of music – classic rock and punk being among his favorites.

“He’s [Aaron] always been a hard worker and always been someone whose lead both musically and socially. I always know if anything is given to him, he will take care of it and it will be done quickly. He has a mirror for music and it’s not just playing drumline stuff – from malice to set play, he’s a very talented musician,” exclaims Mr. Corpuz, Band Director.

Aaron plans to use his musical abilities in his future career as well – he wants to become an audio engineer. Audio engineers mix and produce music for bands or artists and often tour with them to help them put on live shows. Aaron’s promising musical abilities prove to not only be a passion of his, but an asset towards his future career!
