Hunger Games today, Hunger Games tomorrow, Hunger Games forever.

Calling all readers from District 6: The new movie

Catching Fire has been released. Mockingjay is only a year away!

Reading has not been one of my favorite activities. In fact, I don’t believe I have ever read a full book by myself. That was until Catching Fire came out, the second of the Hunger Games series. I must admit, I liked Hunger Games but I didn’t love it. As for Catching Fire, I was obsessed. After seeing the movie twice in theatres, I went to the school library and rented Mockingjay, the third of the Hunger Games series. It made me think, if I read Mockingjay just because I couldn’t handle the suspense after Catching Fire, how many people did the same.

Many people read the Hunger Games series before the movies came out. Some even reread the books.

“I read the series before the movies came out. I haven’t had the time to reread it but I definitely plan on it as soon as possible. I can’t remember what happened in Mockingjay because I read it so long ago. I can’t wait to read it again,” Janine Lowe (’14) said.

In my opinion, the book was amazing. At the end of each chapter, Suzanne Collins left me dangling at the edge of my seat. The best part though, had to have been the new characters and how Collins described the older ones in better detail.

“I like the fact that they brought in new characters to further enhance the story,” Ashley Smith’15 said.

Some of these new characters actually became my favorite. The five most common favorite characters have been to be Katniss, Peeta, Finnick, Gale and Beetee. Some have even said Wiress and Prim, but not as often as the others have been said.

While finishing up Mockingjay, I began to think about a fourth book. I must admit, I have become very obsessed recently and have been dying to reread the series and even a fourth book.

“Of course I wish there was a fourth book. However, if you keep building on a story too much, it could get boring and old,” Smith said.

I agree. Mockingjay basically sums up how Katniss and the other characters’ lives are after the fall out between the capital and the districts; there wouldn’t be enough information left to write a fourth book. It breaks my heart to say it, but I think that the Hunger Games will end with Mockingjay.

There are about eleven months left until Mockingjay part I comes out, and about two years until Mockingjay part II. All I hope is that they don’t leave untold events between the two parts just like they did at the end of Catching Fire. No matter what the wait is, I can promise one thing: Hunger Games today, Hunger Games tomorrow, Hunger Games forever.
