People look for creative ways to get attention, and local band Poor Millionaires certainly found a way to do that last month, as people in C lunch will likely remember. Lead singer Jeff King stole a mic during the lunch period, to promote the band’s performance the day after his announcement. As to if it was planned, lead guitarist Zach Surma’14 said, “Not at all. The whole band was taken by surprise, the response was amazing”. Though, he doesn’t suggest this method of promotion to others- “Of course, we got in huge trouble”.

Who are the Poor Millionaires? The band is comprised of Jeff King, lead singer and rhythm guitarist, Zach Surma, lead guitarist and singer, Zoe Davies, bassist and singer, and Zayd Al-Doais, the drummer. Together, they play what at least Zach called “An alerternative mix of hard rock, blues, [and] punk, with a sprinkle of pop”. That’s a tall order, but they seem to be aware of that. “Needless to say, we are unique or have an identity crisis, you choose!”

After a successful gig at the Ritz, a bar and grill on 10 and Hoover, the Poor Millionaires are going back there this Friday March 21st. For those who have seen the band and have enjoyed them, they’re selling T shirts for $12. Check out and follow the Poor Millionaires on their Facebook page and twitter, @poormilsband.
