Most students think that school is stressful enough, let alone also having a job while going to school. Working during the school year can be nice because it helps to pay for all of the fun things going on, but it can really add a load of stress on each student.
It’s important to make sure you’re available to take on a job before you fill out any applications. If you have pretty easy classes and/or you’re doing very well in your classes, you can always start scouting out some jobs in your free time. On the other hand, if you’re struggling in school or have some difficult classes with 3 hours of homework every night, it’s probably not a great idea to add a job to your list.
Having a job during the school year can overwhelm some people. School and your school work should always be a top priority, but this is high school; your social life is going to be pretty high on the list as well. Doing good in school, having a job, and having plenty of time for your friends isn’t exactly easy. Before you take on a job, remember that you may be giving up some of the fun events going on during the school year.
I’m not trying to persuade you one way or another; I just want to inform you that having a job could add unnecessary stress to your life. If you already have one and are balancing everything in your life well, then good job and keep it up! But for those of you searching for a job- make sure it’s the right time to have one and that you don’t jeopardize your grades in school and your time with your friends. You’ll be able to work the rest of your life, try to enjoy your time as a kid in high school as much as you can!
