It’s the number you most likely memorized before your own, what you call when you’re in dire need of help. A number that’s so simple but can make or break someone’s life.

“9-1-1, what’s your emergency?”

Ryan Murphy’s ‘9-1-1’ is a new television show broadcasted on FOX, and may just look like your typical medical drama which has been a popular theme among other stations, but upon viewing even the previews you are quick to see that it is so much more than that.

We follow along with emergency operator Abby Clark (Connie Britton) who despite her busy and emotional life outside of work enjoys the thrill of her job despite never hearing if the people who desperately need her help survive or not as when help arrives the call ends. However, when the calls ends the real adventure begins.

We are then introduced to Bobby Nash (Peter Krause) a firefighter who reveals how his job affects his and many of his other coworkers lives, who each have some sort of addiction that helps them cope with the ups and downs of their career, including alcoholism. We are also introduced to Evan ‘Buck’ Buckley (Oliver Stark), a new firefighter, who risks his job with every task he meets despite Bobby’s warnings.

Not only do we witness the lives and dangers that firefighters face, we get an inside view on the cops and paramedics as well, whose lives intertwine. We meet cop Athena Grant (Angela Bassett) who along with her intense occupation, is struggling with intense relationship and family troubles. We also see Henrietta ‘Hen’ Wilson (Aisha Hinds) who despite the way her coworkers look at her, isn’t afraid to say what she wants to say.

Unlike other medical dramas we don’t witness a backstory on those who dial 9-1-1 but instead the show focuses more on the characters of the show and how they separate themselves from their work when off the clock. This is mostly due to the fact that the firefighters, cops, and paramedics leave their patients at the hospital door.

9-1-1 is an action-packed television show that immediately grips the hearts of those who watch within each episode, and will be a show that is believed to last as long and be as popular as other medical dramas such as “Chicago P.D.” and “Chicago Fire.”

You can watch “9-1-1” every Wednesday at 9pm on FOX, or On Demand.
